Types of Credit
Issued by the ACCME, and apply to all licensed physicians, regardless of specialty.
Specific to those physicians licensed to practice radiology, and are reported to the ABR.
CME Credits
Physicians (MD, DO, MBBS)
University of California San Francisco School of Medicine (UCSF) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education activities for physicians.
UCSF designates each of the programs listed here for a maximum number of Category 1 CreditsTM toward the AMA Physician's Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of his/her participation in the activity.
Physician Assistants (PA)
The NCCPA accepts as Category 1 Credit: CME credit from organizations that serve as sponsors or accreditors of CME activities, including AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM from organizaitons accredited by the ACCME.
Nurses (RN, NP)
For the purposes of recertification, the American Nurses Credentialing Center accepts AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM issued by organizations accredited by the ACCME.
Sonographers (RDMS)
While not specifically endorsed by the ARDMS, program content is approved for AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM; therefore program content specified as ultrasound (imaging modality credit) should be accepted toward meeting the continuing education requirements of the ARDMS. You may want to check with your state licensing board prior to registering.
Technologists (RT)
As these courses are not specifically approved for credit by the ASRT, they do not qualify for category “A+” credit. They might be accepted for category “A” credit, you may want to check with your state licensing board prior to registering.
SAMS (Self-Assessment) Credits
For courses prior to December 31, 2022, SAMs questions, answers and references have been designed to meet the standards of the American Board of Radiology (ABR) for self-assessment modules. SAM credits are subject to review, change and final approval by the ABR. SAM credits are a requirement for radiologists licensed in the U.S., and are reported independently of CME Credits.
As of January 1, 2023, the American Board of Radiology will be instituting the Online Longitudinal Assessment (OLA) portal, so that licensed radiologists may answer and report multiple-choice questions directly to the ABR:
https://www.theabr.org/blogs/abr-eliminating-sa-cme-requirement-for-ola-participants
Those physicians completing MOC multiple-choice questions on the OLA portal on an annual basis will no longer be required to report additional Self-Assessment credits. Accordingly, UCSF Radiology will no longer be including SAMs multiple-choice questions as part of CME course lectures.
Need duplicate certificates?
If you cannot find your certificates of attendance from previous activities, you can check your attendance history and obtain duplicate copies from the UCSF Office of Continuing Medical Education (OCME) by logging onto the online UCSF CME portal.
