How to Order a PET/MRI Scan

UCSF Physicians

Order via Apex - PETMR or PETMRI:

  1. Each PET/MRI order set is attached to two orders: one for the PET and one for the MRI.
           a.  For example, a "PET/MRI WB with adomen with and without contrast
                (PET/MRI)" will result in two orders:
                   i.  PET WB (PETMR).
                   ii.  MR Addomen with and without Contrast (PET/MRI).
           b.  Each order is billed separately with the study scheduled and
                performed concurrently on the PET/MRI.
  2. Both orders need to be signed.
  3. If a PET/CT and MRI are ordered separately, they will not be performed on the
         PET/MRI.
  4. Schedule patient via Radiology scheduling. PET/MRI studies are performed at China Basin as an outpatient, and anesthesia is not available.

Non-UCSF Physician Referrals 

Provide a PET/MRI written order and schedule via Radiology scheduling. Our billing department will contact the referring physician's practice to gather the needed information.
