What We Offer

Neuroendovascular Surgery (NES), also known as Neurointerventional Radiology, or Cerebrovascular Surgery, treats vascular diseases of the central nervous system.

Our NES team is comprised of world-renowned physicians including experts from Radiology & Biomedical Imaging and Neurosurgery. Our team members work collaboratively to offer our patients state-of-the-art treatment to address a variety of conditions including brain tumors, cerebral aneurysms and other complex disorders of the brain and spinal cord.

Spotlight: Interventional Neuro-oncology

We have had significant success in treating retinoblastoma patients with endovascular chemotherapy, saving 80% of eyes in babies that may have otherwise been removed. With body interventional radiologists, NES clinicians are exploring primary tumor treatment in the head and neck using MR-guided high intensity ultrasound for tumor ablation. This technique temporarily makes the brain more permeable for drug delivery, which is expected to be transformational in the next decade.

Why Choose UCSF for Neuroendovascular Surgery?

  • We offer minimally invasive endovascular techniques that lower the risk to patients, shorten hospital stays, and hasten patient recovery
  • Our faculty physicians actively develop new diagnostic and endovascular treatments for disorders involving the blood vessels of the brain, head, neck, and spine
