Edward Sickles, MD
Biography
Edward A. Sickles, MD, has previously served as Chief of the Breast Imaging Section at the University of California, San Francisco. Presently, he is a Professor Emeritus of Radiology at UCSF School of Medicine and actively a member of the Women’s Imaging Section. Dr. Sickles received his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College, New York in 1969, and then completed two years of internship and residency in internal medicine at Cornell University Medical College (New York Hospital - Memorial Hospital), then served for two years at the US Public Health Service Hospital in Baltimore, and then completed a diagnostic radiology residency at UCSF, followed by an academic radiology fellowship at UCSF.
Dr. Sickles has presented papers at more than 250 scientific meetings, and has been invited as a speaker to over 850 educational seminars in 43 states in the United States and 32 foreign countries. Dr. Sickles continues to serve as a member to many breast imaging committees, and most recently, he chaired the American College of Radiology (ACR) National Mammography Database Committee and the ACR Committee that produced the mammography and auditing portions of the Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS).
As a prolific contributor to breast imaging education and scientific literature, Dr. Sickles has authored and co-authored 10 books and monographs, more than 260 scientific articles, and almost 100 other scientific communications.
Dr. Sickles is the recipient of numerous awards and special recognitions for his dedication, service, and contributions to breast imaging, including the Gold Medal of the Society of Breast Imaging and honorary membership in four international radiological societies.
